‘Too Little, Too Late’ by ruby vectra - Song Review

Writer: Sonic HubSonic Hub

Authenticity should be Ruby Vectra’s middle name. With Too Little, Too Late, the Essex native brings an authentic, stripped-down perspective on the paradoxical nature of one’s 20s— never enough time, yet all the time in the world.

With the soft-spoken yet striking vocals Ruby has made us accustomed to — at times resembling the likes of Regina Spektor — we are taken on an untimely, stripped-back journey that mirrors the experience of being in your 20s: bidding farewell to childhood, letting nostalgia consume you, never doing enough (or doing too much), and feeling so behind that you almost lose your breath midway… through life.

Ruby’s voice and lyrics are solely accompanied by a piano line throughout most of the song, and yet, it’s more than enough. When the track finally breaks out, it keeps building, capturing the lonely sprint of trying to live up to your own expectations while dredging through uncharted waters in pursuit of your dreams. It’s a cathartic ode to those who dream.

Ruby has made us accustomed to songs that take us on incredibly vivid journeys through the tucked-away parts of ourselves. Her lyricism, often born from her bedroom, demonstrates an honesty we all need in the scene, and Too Little, Too Late is no exception. Curtains from her debut EP explored the heartache of remembering the one that got away, while Habits delves into the pain of trying to be friends with someone you still have feelings for — earning its place on Spotify’s Discover playlist. As she now starts dabbling in the gig scene and building an engaged community in London and beyond, we can’t wait to see where she takes us next — definitely one to watch!
