Fresh on the scene, Huddersfield based indie quartet Long Island are set to make huge waves this summer playing numerous festivals including Truck, Y Not & Isle of Wight and have released their new single “sweet song” just in time for you to be obsessed for when summer comes around.

Described as the perfect song for the ending montage to a coming-of-age film, "sweet song" by Long Island truly feels like watching a Linklater on fast forward; you can truly feel the heart and soul of films like Boyhood being condensed into three minutes of pure bright indie bliss. Blending pop and rock influences seamlessly the song is for those who love to listen to the likes of Nieve Ella, the 1975 and Fickle Friends (all huge influences on the band).
Self-written and self-produced, the heartfelt lyrics describe the immediate feeling of infatuation, perhaps through rose-coloured glasses, that we can all relate to. The guitar hook immediately following the first chorus sounds perfect for those days you want to sit on a bus looking out the window imagining you’re in the next Celine Song directed romance and the chorus is fitting for a scene sat around a campfire staring through the flames at your new love.
As a chronic yearner I haven’t felt this excited about a piece of media since Pride & Prejudice (that hand flex) got rereleased in cinemas earlier this year. The gorgeous bittersweet lyricism (“don’t you know you’re always out of my league, I waited a while but I finally made it, don’t say it’s just a dream” will haunt me for a while) mixed with the pop-rock guitars make for that perfect end-of-spring, start-of-summer romanticising I crave every single year. Love can suck, love can be sweet, yearning can hurt, yearning can be wonderful and what would all of that be without phenomenal new music to sit at home and contemplate it all with.
Find Long Island on social media, in your headphones and at every other major festival soon we’re sure of it!
