Taking place at the Electric Ballroom on the 21st November, Arthur Hill stunned crowds on the final stop of his Kill Hill tour. The night was full of lots of dancing, incredible music, and cowboy hats (in line with the tour’s ‘disco cowboy’ dress code).
Opening for Hill was the musician Calum Bowie, who entertained the crowds and created the perfect anticipation and atmosphere, and, in turn, gained more fans of his music - including myself. This year's winner of Scottish Breakthrough Artist of the Year’s sound is likened to that of Noah Kahan with his fantastic voice and guitar playing. I am looking forward to seeing his future growth in the music industry.
Hill’s set contained a range of his older and newer songs, opening with his cowboy-themed hit ‘John Wayne’. He also performed his unreleased song ‘Lily’ which, announced before the gig, would be released at midnight that night and would be a part of an EP released on Valentine’s Day of 2025. Another featured moment midway through his set, was when Hill covered Billie Eilish’s ‘Birds of a Feather’. The atmosphere of the venue was amazing. It was filled with so much love and happiness, and having the opportunity to sing an incredibly heartfelt and meaningful song to one another and to Arthur, with friends, family, and strangers, was extremely special.
A favourite moment of mine was during one of Hill’s slower songs ‘Passing Thought’. Before the show, fans had passed red pieces of paper around and informed each other to hold them over their flashlights at the right time. This ’right time’ was during ‘Passing Thought’ as the crowd was flooded with red lights. It was a stunning sight to see and an incredible moment to be a part of.
Another one of my favourite parts of Hill’s set, and his favourite song of mine, was ‘Dead in the Disco’. During the main bridge of the song, Hill encouraged the entire crowd to crouch down lower to the floor and sing. Then, when the chorus kicked in, Hill and the entire crowd jumped up and danced with an immense amount of energy. The performance was most definitely the most fun part of his set as a crowd member, and I hope that others in the future get to experience it too. It perfectly set the scene and tone for Hill’s closing song ‘Hey Arthur!’ which had everyone shouting the lyrics and drew the night to an energetic close.
Overall, the night was a fantastic combination of energy, love, and excitement; with lots of added sparkles and cowboy hats. It was filled with many incredible moments, and showcased the astonishing vocal talent that Hill holds. Although the Kill Hill tour (volume 1) has now drawn to a close, you can listen to Hill’s discography on most platforms, with his new EP being released on 14th February 2025.
