CMAT closed the ‘Euro-Country Tour’ at Le Trianon, Paris – Review

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when an artist returns to the place where their songs were born. For CMAT (Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson), that place is Paris. Taking the stage at the historic Le Trianon on April 2nd, the Irish pop icon didn’t just deliver a show, she hosted a homecoming that felt like a chaotic, beautiful, and deeply personal exchange between an artist and her "second home."

Early in the set, CMAT opened up about her deep connection to the city, sharing how she spent significant time living in Paris to write and find her voice. This history wasn't lost on the crowd. Fans proudly displayed custom pins that read "AW SHOOT! MADE IN PARIS IN 2024," a nod to the track written in the French capital. Even though "Aw, Shoot!" was already locked into the setlist, the audience chanted for it as if it were a sacred hymn, anchoring the bond between the venue and the music written within the city's walls.

The night often felt like a high-energy one-woman show. CMAT’s comedic timing is as sharp as her vocals, particularly when she poked fun at the cultural divide in music journalism. With a playful French accent, she mimicked the "deep" Parisian interviewers who ask, "What is your relationship wiz your parents?"—contrasting them with London journalists who hide behind Gen-Z buzzwords like, "You’re such a diva and you slayyyy! Also, what was it like to make music?" The room erupted in laughter, caught in the charm of her self-aware wit.

Before the night reached its fever pitch, the mood shifted to one of necessary gravity. CMAT took a poignant moment to deliver a goodbye speech, emphasizing the importance of using her platform to amplify those who are being silenced. She spoke passionately about the situation in Palestine, leading the Trianon in a powerful, unified chant of "Free Palestine" that echoed through the theater’s ornate gold leafing.

How do you close a night that oscillates between existential parental questions and political activism? With a line dance, obviously. The show culminated in a high-energy explosion as the entire Trianon mirrored her iconic choreography for "I Wanna Be A Cowboy, Baby!" It was a masterclass in performance, leaving Paris sweaty and reminded that in CMAT’s world, there is room for both the silliest jokes and the most serious heart.

Paris was the final curtain call for the EU/UK/IE leg of the ‘Eurocountry Tour’—CMAT has conquered our side of the Atlantic, and the next time she steps onto a stage, it will be under the desert sun for her highly anticipated debut at Coachella next weekend.
